5 Iconic Locations for a Professional Photoshoot in Lanzarote

As a Lanzarote wedding photographer, I’ve navigated the island’s raw, volcanic landscapes to find spots that offer both lunar-like isolation and immense scale. From the emerald waters of the south to the high cliffs of the north, here are my top five locations for a professional photoshoot in Lanzarote.

1. PAPAGAYO BEACHES: GOLDEN SAND AND CLEAR WATER

Papagayo is the most famous beach area in Lanzarote. It has golden sand and clear green water surrounded by big volcanic rocks.

The Photographer’s Tip: The water looks great, but the tall cliffs create shadows early. This means the "Golden Hour" ends very fast. You should start your shoot 90 minutes before sunset to catch the light before it disappears behind the hills.

What to Wear: Pick light dresses that blow in the wind. White looks very beautiful here. Dark yellow or deep green colors also look very good against the light sand and blue water.

2. EL GOLFO: VOLCANIC DRAMA

If you want a wild and natural place, El Golfo is a great choice. It is on the west coast and has huge dark cliffs and powerful waves.

The Photographer’s Tip: The dark rocks soak up the light, which makes the photos look moody and strong. The white waves create a beautiful contrast against the black ground. Keep a cloth ready to clean your lens because the salt from the sea is still in the air.

Note: Unlike many other spots on the island, it is not windy here. This is perfect for photoshoots because hair and clothes stay exactly where you want them.

3. LA GERIA: THE VINEYARD LUNAR LANDSCAPE

La Geria is Lanzarote’s unique wine region, characterized by thousands of semi-circular stone walls and black volcanic ash. It is unlike any other landscape on Earth.

The Photographer's Tip: The black soil acts as a natural light absorber, which can make the ground look like a "black hole" in photos if the sun is too high. Shoot during the final hour of light to catch the texture of the stone circles and the picon.

What to Wear: Avoid dark colors or small patterns that get lost in the landscape. Solid, vibrant colors like red, bright yellow, or pure white will make the subjects pop against the monochromatic black earth.

4. FAMARA: THE MIRROR OF THE NORTH

Famara is a massive stretch of sand backed by the 600-meter-high Risco de Famara cliffs. It offers the most dramatic scale on the island.

The Photographer's Tip: Timing is everything here—you must check the tide. At low tide, the wet sand transforms into a giant mirror, reflecting the cliffs and the sky for incredible symmetrical compositions.

What to Wear: This is a location for movement. Long, lightweight trains or veils work perfectly with the constant wind. Natural fibers like linen or raw cotton complement the organic, rugged feel of the cliffs.

5. MIRADOR DEL RIO: THE NORTHERN CLIFFS

This spot is at the very north of the island. It has a high view looking down at the ocean and the small island of La Graciosa.

The Photographer’s Tip: This location is all about the high view. During the day, the light is often flat and hazy. It is best to take photos here at sunset to get the best colors and clear views.

What to Wear: Choose simple and elegant clothes. Since the background is the huge blue ocean, plain outfits will make you stand out beautifully. Avoid busy patterns so the focus stays on you and the view.
